Don't tell me you still haven't seen Broadway's most popular show. It's only been playing for six years. Now in this economy a trip to New York can be expensive. Broadway's Most Popular Show Wicked Is Still Defying Gravity
For several years now Wicked is playing to mostly sell-out audiences 8 times a week. I have personally seen Wicked 3 times with different lead actors in the cast and each performance was brilliant. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Wicked simply has all the right elements for Broadway success.
Wicked is often referred to as the "untold story of the Wizard of Oz". You might say it is like a "prequel" to the Wizard of Oz story we've seen on television many times. Everyone knows that in the film version there is Glinda The Good-Witch and also the Wicked Witch of the West. Well in this stage version of Wicked The Musical, we get acquainted with Elphaba from her unusual birth where she was born "green" in body color till she goes to college and we meet her roommate Glinda. Their story isn't really what you'd expect. On stage we see how very close the girls can become yet understand the big differences that keep them apart as well.
Wicked The Musical delivers gorgeous sets which are very pretty to look at and has amazing music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, who also wrote the music for Pocahontas and Godspell years ago. There are a few really terrific spine tingling musical numbers that you'll remember for a long time to come. Wicked has a book that was written by Winnie Holzman with great direction by Broadway's Joe Mantello.

Wicked Still Breaking Box Office Records
Now in it's sixth celebrated year on Broadway is Wicked.In all my years in this business I have never seen a show that continues to sell out every performance like Wicked does. When you consider that fact that it also plays in the biggest theater on Broadway then it is even more amazing. I'll admit that while I did enjoy the show I never expected it would be the big hit that it is today. Don't forget that the show also didn't get very good reviews when it opened either. I guess the critics don't know everything.

Wicked Is Still Going Strong
It's 2010 and Broadway's reigning champ is still Wicked. Who would have thought a show about two witches would become the biggest hit in Broadway history. I sure didn't. Neither did the critics when it first opened back in 2003. Yet here we are six years later and Wicked continues to break box office records around the world week in and week out. In fact just last week the Broadway production broke it's own record from the year before by grossing over two million dollars. Who says that Broadway is in a slump? Most shows after a few years tend to slow down but not Wicked. In all the years in this business I have never seen a show that is as popular as Wicked. I will even go as far to say that Wicked will eventually surpass The Phantom of The Opera as Broadway's longest running show. Sure they may have a way to go but if any show has a chance to do it Wicked does. By the way right now is the best time to get tickets to see Broadway's top show. What are waiting for?
